    Using Math to Understand Slots

If you are a fan of slots games you have to be careful. All gamers have been there…you walk up to a slots game and read the pay table. You think, “Great! This game only costs $0.50 to wager on! I can afford that!” You have to dig a little deeper with slots games than that. There was a time when slots were just that- simple and straightforward games that offered gaming like that. If the game said “fifty-cents” then they cost “fifty-cents.” That is not necessarily the case anymore though. Now, you have to be a little wiser about picking games. Sure the game may say fifty-cents to spin, but you also have to look at how many paylines there are. If you are wagering on a good game there likely are more than just one payline. This is a new trend in the market. developers are building games with ten, twenty, fifty and even one-hundred different paylines to them. The fun is that you get to decide how many paylines you want to work with when you are wagering. This could be a few dollars worth, or it could be a few hundred depending on what you as a gambler decide. For example, in the above $0.50-per spin game, let’s say the game has ten paylines to it. You could play for just $0.50 on one payline, or you could activate any number of paylines up to ten. Each one you activate though is going to cost you another $0.50. So if you are wagering on five of the paylines then it will cost you $2.50, or if you are wagering on all the paylines it is going to cost you $5 to wager on the game per spin.

When you are picking a new slots game be sure you do the math and know what you are getting into. You may not be able to afford all the paylines but you want to be sure you understand how that is going to affect your outcome. For example, if you are playing a progressive you have to play the maximum amount of coins to be eligible for the big win. If you don’t, then you will win something with a good win, but not the life-changing amount that likely drew you to the game in the first place.
