How to Play Progressives- Part 1
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010In the world of slots gaming there are the progressive games. Anyone who has been gaming for a while most likely has been attracted by the progressive slots due to their hefty payouts. It is also exciting to watch them grow quickly. Normally you will see a ticker right on the screen that shows you the numbers getting bigger and bigger with each passing second. Who wouldn’t be excited to get in on that? A lot of progressives quickly reach into the hundreds-of-thousands of dollars, if not the millions. It isn’t unusual to see casinos wooing customers with a huge progressive payout on a popular game either. Overall progressives are some of the most lucrative games on the market today.
If you are going to get in on progressives, remember that there are different styles. The way a progressive slots game works is that it is a game that is networked together with other games of the same title, genre or theme. When a player wagers, part of that wager goes directly to the jackpot. For example, if you are wagering $10, the casino could set it up such that the first $1 of your wager goes to the jackpot. If ten people are playing on that network of games, that means every time they spin the jackpot increases by another $10. In general there are three different kinds of progressive games. The first is called the “stand alone” progressive. These are the games that take their jackpots from only the wagers they collect. These tend to be smaller because of that but still they can offer a lot of fun to any gamer. There also is the “in-house” slots game. These are the ones that are networked throughout a casino. Operators may link five games on the slots floor together but it is just one casino that is handling them. These are mid-level payout games. You can find some advantages here because the payouts are bigger than the stand-alone, but they aren’t the million-dollar games you hear about. Those are the “area-wide” progressives. These are a network of games connected over a large geographic area. That could be statewide or even bigger. You can see with these easily thousands of people participate in them and that means that the jackpots soar.
