Baltimore Looks to Increase Slots at Pimlico Race Park

    Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Baltimore Maryland is a city that is looking to gambling and increasing it as a means of generating funds. The city is one of the still most depressed ones in the US right now. There are plenty of problems with revival for cities everywhere, but Baltimore seems to not be seeing even small signs of change. Now, the city plans on spending $2- million expected to be generated from slot machine gaming on a “seven-acre” park. The park is going to be around the Pimlico Racetrack. This park though is going to require the relocation of people living in the nearby areas. The project is a big one, but state officials are hoping it is going to pay off nicely in the future. They want to use the money to fuel right back into the gambling market and see how far they can push it. This is common with a lot of officials in the US right now. They have gambling plans in the works and are already earmarking funds for future usage. Whether or not this is necessarily a smart move has yet to be seen, but it isn’t going to stop them from trying. Baltimore officials are looking to help Pimlico Racetrack return to the numbers it was once bringing in and believe that turning it into a racino could do the trick. There is still enough support for gambling at the slots games to prove that it could help to revive racetracks all over the world.

One thing has to be settled though. If people have to be relocated, that could pose another problem of “where?” Everyone wants to know where they are going to have to be living if the plan goes through. The fact is the people in this area are from a very diverse and mixed income level and that means that not everyone is going to be able to afford a direct change. What is the state and city going to do for those who can’t necessarily afford a huge move? This is another expense that is going to have to be factored into the gambling plan. Legislators have to be mindful of all the ramifications of such a big relocation project in the coming years.

Anne Arundel Mills Project on Hold

    Friday, May 13th, 2011

For a long time now, Anne Arundel Mills has been the center of talk for a slots parlor. Cordish Cos. is the company helming the project and in the past it has fought hard for the opportunity. Leading up to the approval of this casino was a period of months spent on debates. People were on sides against each other discussing the benefits and problems with allowing a gambling casino into that area. In the end, Cordish Cos. won out because of how much money the new facility could potentially bring in. One thing is for sure in the world of casino gambling- games are lucrative. Slots are the number one moneymakers right now and have been for some time now. Though there are other higher-wager games available on the casino floor, it is the slots that have consistently taken over the revenue being brought in. Operators are aware of this and so are legislators. They realize that if they are to bring in the money needed, they most likely are going to need the help of a good slots gaming plan. That is exactly what Anne Arundel Mills developers have pushed for prior to getting the approval for the slots parlor. Maryland legislators are ready to come up with a market share of the newly opened northeastern US gambling pool. There is an opening since Atlantic City’s market took a fall thanks to the post-recessionary economy.

Though Maryland officials have made a petition for the east coast market, they are now putting the development of Arundel Mills’s project on hold. It originally was supposed to be finished by the middle of this year, but now the estimates are that it will happen mid-June of next year. The facility is supposed to bring in $75-million to the state and that means legislators are eager to get the plan going. Unfortunately, there are some problems with the planning now. The problem was a third-party appeal on the building permits afforded to Cordish Cos and without those, the project cannot more ahead. This is why the entire legislature is pushing for the project to get moving, but without the proper permits this is going to be on hold for that much longer.

MD Looking to Slots Gaming- Part 1

    Friday, May 13th, 2011

Maryland officials are excited about the numbers coming in thanks to slots gambling. The games have proven their worth time and time again over the past few years. There was a time when they were thought of as small wager games with small payouts to match. Those days are long gone though and now you can find huge payouts with the games. One thing that gaming companies are doing also is fine tuning the games to accommodate more gamblers than ever. You used to find certain games on specific carousels. For example, if you wanted to wager on the nickel-slots, you would find them bunched together. The same was true of the penny slots or the bigger-wager slots. If you wanted to find a specific one, you only had to watch the carousels you were working at. Now games are different. The games of today no longer are limited to just one denomination of wager. Now you can find more game than ever that have a wide wager range. You can find games that are classified as penny-slots but also can be elevated by activating paylines to $50-per spin games. This newfound ability to expand gambling games is a purposeful move by slots developers to attract as many customers as possible into their gaming floors. They know that the games are popular and their goal is to bring them to a new level of notoriety with themes and wagers. The wager move likely is the most critical one to pushing the games’ popularity.

Having games that are affordable is the number one way a casino can keep on bringing in gamers. When the market fluctuates that is exactly what is needed. People have to keep on finding games that still fit into their revenue level and slots are great games that do just that. They are flexible. For example, you can’t find games with the same low wager amount at the poker tables or at the blackjack tables. They both tend to require more of an initian investment to play. The games can come with hefty wager requirements throughout the games and antes too. These both drive up the overall cost of the games to play.

    Part two coming next.

Ocean Downs Performing Well with Slots Games

    Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Maryland legislators couldn’t be happier about the different changes going on within the state. They know that slots are going to be an integral part of their overall turnaround financially. The state has been under a difficult weight since the recession and first now is there a light at the end of the tunnel for them. Recently Ocean Downs opened and it had a great showing. It has been open for just over one month now and the casino has already brought the state $3-million, and averaged at $140 per day per slot machine. This is great news for them and they are looking forward to future months of performance. Recent financial statements noted that most of the casino’s revenue went to the state, leaving just $1-million for the casino to keep. This was a bigger production than anyone anticipated and could be a sign of where the market is going and how quickly it is going to take to gambling. no one doubted that slots were huge money makers, but they weren’t quite as sure about how quickly there would be a positive revenue stream for the casino. It took some doing to get the slots parlor up and running and now legislators who pushed for it are reveling in their decisions. They know that there are few other options that would bring them the same revenue streams and this is a comforting.

This year is the first year the Maryland has two big slots parlor working together to generate revenue. There is Ocean Downs and Hollywood Casino. Hollywood Casino of course opened back in November and since that time has brought in over $10.5-million. Both slots parlors are making a great change for the market and bringing in millions to the state in tax revenue dollars. Legislator couldn’t be happier. Maryland is now attracting gamblers from all neighboring states and tourism for the state could also be up in coming months—especially as the weather in the area heads towards summer weather. You can expect to see more activity within the casinos and of course more revenue. It should only take a small amount of time for things to turn around completely and the state to revel in the added dollars.

    Slots Law Changing in Maryland

    Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Right now there are a lot of legal issues with slots parlors throughout the US. Senators in Maryland are hoping to instill legislation that would prevent one slots company from interfering with another during negotiations. This is mainly a response to the accusation at Penn National Gaming. The company is coming under fire for allegedly preventing the state’s largest casino from unlocking its doors to the public. It was late last week that the senators made their petition for the change regarding Anne Arundel County. They want to stop any slots licenses from interfering with, obstructing or delaying the plan for a video lottery facility. The senators, James Degrange and Ed Kasemeyer, are already at odds with the state’s gambling plan. They believe that Cordish Cos was the first to create problems with the hobby. The company of course was the one that pushed through Hollywood Casino late last year. That casino has over 4,700 video slots terminals for gamers to play with. Now the state is hoping to bring four other possible slots parlors to increase their overall gambling revenue coming in from the games. So far the Perryville facility has brought in over $38-million. This is why so many other legislators are petitioning to leave the issue along and let the slot parlor continue to generate huge dollars.

This is just another sign of how slots are taking over the market. The games are lucrative and performing well for states everywhere. This inevitably is going to bring in more problems though for legislators who need to sort through the rules and find ones that work for all parties involved. This may be impossible though—there are so many parties with their hands in the pot that pleasing everyone could be a task that is unattainable. Only time will tell where Maryland goes with its slots gaming initiatives .one thing is for sure though- the state’s legislators who are behind it are not easily going to let go. They know the millions of tax revenue dollars being brought into the state thanks to gambling at the slots machines and are not easily going to let go of all of it for anything else.

Maryland VFW Halls Request Slot Gaming

    Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

It is no secret that slots gaming is a highly lucrative hobby. Gaming companies everywhere are pushing to maximize their slots gaming as a means of bringing in big dollars. There are no debates as to the power of slots gaming and how revenue from it can turn a business completely around. Maryland officials realize the power of slots and are trying to revamp their own initiatives throughout the state. Right now it is the VFW halls that are requesting to bring in slots gaming to help them. VFW hall officials are having problems staying open due to their membership dollars being way down. It is another result of the recession—people just don’t have the money to keep on wagering or maintaining their memberships. Now that the recession is over, things are swinging back to normal, but it is taking a lot longer than anticipated. VFW halls realize that though membership is down, it could possibly be nudged back up with slots gaming on their floors. To make this happen, the county officials have to individually vote on the issue and allow them to bring the games in. right now a bill is on the table, but it was put off until later this year. There is an eleven-member delegation that has to approve the move before it can be sent to the General Assembly and become a law.

Right now it is Ellicott City VFW Post that wants the approval to bring in five slots machines to their location. This postponement of the decision though isn’t sitting well with them. The owners believe this to be a grave decision and a pressing one. Things aren’t looking good for the issue to be set now anyway. A Howard County delegate Frank Turner stated recently that the committee that oversees gambling stated that any expansion of slots gaming would have to come after five full slots casinos get their authorization throughout the state. That most likely won’t be a completed project until 2013 or 2014. That means all other issues on the table relating to slots gaming are going to be put on hold indefinitely.

Maryland Looking for New Slots Parlor

    Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Maryland officials know full well now how lucrative games are. The company is pushing for more and more games to be brought into the state. It all began with Hollywood Casino in Perryville. The casino went up and immediately became a huge money maker for the state. It was not without problems, and there were some glitches, but legislators took their time with the project. Once it did open, it began bringing in huge dollars from the start. The casino has over 1,500 slot machines for locals and tourists to enjoy. They love the games and are finding that they are great at paying out big rewards to customers who bring a little luck with them. The casino brought in $2-million within the first four days of operations and that was enough to convince legislators that they needed to bring more slots to the local market. This is how Ocean Downs Race Track was targeted for the next big slots parlor for the state. It is no secret that racing is dying in the market. Since the recession, it has had a difficult time bringing in the numbers that it formerly made. Nothing seemed to be spurring the market forward except for slots. Now legislators are making their own move to use slots to revive the racing market. They created the Ocean Downs Racino—a combination of race track activity and slots parlor.

So far both entities are making huge dollars for state coffers and you can expect that legislators are not done yet with the games. Now they are trying to get a new bid for yet another casino location in Baltimore. It would be directed by Cordish Cos, a leader in building slots parlors throughout the world. The company now is being allowed to petition for one of the two additional gaming licenses that are available within the state. As of right now legislators are targeting one year’s time to create another working slots parlor to bring in that much more tax revenue. This one is to include a live venue, restaurants and of course a premiere slots gaming parlor that features over two-thousand slots games for visitors to enjoy.

Maryland Looks for Ways to Expand the Market

    Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Slots machine licensing for the state of Maryland is still developing. It is no secret that the games are highly advantageous and now companies are pining for the 5 existing license the state is going to hand out. The General Assembly is requesting changes that would allow a slot machine licenser in the state to obtain two licenses. Right now, every gambling company in the state can hold only one license. Right now the state is using three of its licenses though—Perryville, Ocean City at Ocean Downs and a slots parlor in Anne Arundel County. That still leaves two more for the taking. Of course legislators would love to hand out all 5 licenses to responsible gaming companies. They believe that the slots addition would bring in so much money that they would be able to easily double their tax revenue dollars from slots. This is not a small amount either—slots are huge money makers and with the tax revenue rules, it means multi-millions of dollars for the state on a monthly basis. It could open the door for overcoming the recession’s affects that much sooner. Every state is looking for ways to shore up its revenue stream for the state. They want to bring in as much money as possible because it means a turnaround in the overall market that much sooner.

All three locations for slots gaming in Maryland have had their own successes in the market. They are bringing in more money than originally anticipated. This most likely is the number one reason why state legislators are pushing for more licensing. The rule right now states that no company can have more than one license. They are therefore searching for additional companies to come in and build a slots parlor expansion at the Rocky Gap State Park area. This would work well for the state because it would put slots parlors in all areas of the state. Residents hopefully would have a location they could frequent and bring in that much more cash for the state. Only time will tell who gets that final bid, but most likely the state will continue to revisit the issue as they continue to develop their slots market.

Maryland Hoping for Bids on New Slots Parlor

    Saturday, January 15th, 2011

There are changes arising in the Maryland market. This time it is the Video Lottery Facility Location Commission that is debating what to do with new plan for a third slots location in the state. So far there are already two different slots parlors that were built recently. They both have performed well for the state and far exceeded revenue expectations. That is great news for Maryland officials and they are hoping to capitalize on the market even more. This is why they are in discussions with Cordish Cos to manage the third casino project. This time it is a huge slots parlor that they are hoping to station at Rocky Gap. So far the location has not gotten any bids though. This is surprising because of lucrative the other locations are so far. However, the state is looking to hand out another license for gambling. it already has two in the market and would like to assign the third one. Cordish Cos already stated that if they do take on the project it will be bigger in scope than the other two already existing ones. The estimates are that a Rocky Gap location slots parlor could generate $600 million annually for the state. This is a huge amount and could help the state work its way out of the hefty deficit it is under right now.

The state of Maryland is not alone in having problems with reviving itself post-recession. There are many states struggling to bring up their revenue streams. All states have huge deficits to deal with and thus far have used increases in taxes and cut backs to manage them. Their legislators however would love to find other ways of bringing in huge dollars and slots seem to be the method of choice. They have already performed well for the markets that are employing them and are showing no signs of slowing down. Just look at how many states are pushing legalization and expansion of their current slots initiatives. They know that slots are huge money makers and most likely other activities that can offer the same revenue aren’t going to easily come along.

Maryland Has Great New Slots Opening Ceremony

    Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Maryland is by no means done with slots gaming. The state saw how successful their old plan of Hollywood Casino was. It was built this past year and immediately took off. The first four days of operations it brought in $2-million dollars. It was expected to be successful but the estimate was not that much, so soon. This was great news though for gamers who believe that slots are the key to fun and payouts. Millions of people love the slots and believe that the games are the ones they are going to enjoy over any bankroll limit or problem. Let’s face it, few games offer as much wagering flexibility as slots games to. They are the games that can take wagers of as little as a penny if needed. This makes then one of the most lucrative games in the market, and one of the most stable. Due to the success of the first slots parlor, now Maryland legislators pushed for more slots to be brought in. this time it was their race track Ocean Down that benefited directly from the games. State legislators approved the race track to bring in seven-hundred-and-fifty games –for the purpose of turning around the market. The games were means to bring in money for the state, but also money to save the struggling racing industry.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was this past Tuesday and made a big showing for the state. The Governor Martin O’Malley was there and so were leading political officials. Part of their excitement was the creation of new jobs for the state too. The casino is bringing a need for over 230 new job positions. This is a great idea for all involved and state legislators are hoping it will answer the need for more revenue, but also help turn the market for Ocean Downs around. It is one of the main ways that states in the area are using for bringing more money. They believe that they are going to need to increase slots as a way of maximizing revenue due to the struggles the recession created. This new racino should be instrumental in helping the Maryland market to revive and stay productive in the future.
