Las Vegas Sands May Change Name
Thursday, November 4th, 2010There are a lot of changes in the world of gambling and one is the name changes of big companies. More and more large gambling facilities are looking to change their name as an ode to a new generation of success coming quickly to the market. It is a lot like MGM Mirage changing their name earlier this year to MGM Resorts International. They wanted to convey that they are more than just a small casino company, but rather an international gambling conglomerate. Now it is the Las Vegas Sands Hotel that is looking into viable options when it comes to changing its name. The company started small, but has quickly gained steam in the market over the years since its 1989 opening. Now it operates a casino in Pennsylvania, the Venetian in Las Vegas, the Palazzo Resort in Las Vegas, three casinos in Macau and another resort in Singapore. This is a sign of how quickly the company has been expanding over the years. It is a great company that offers a lot of gambling excellence to the various locations it operates out of. This name change is something that the board is contemplating and it is part of a potential rebranding process the company wants to take on. With the global economy, operators want to bring more of an international feel to the company.
Because of the name, the Las Vegas Sands Corp is often affiliated only with Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas no longer is the number one gambling location in the world. In fact, it has lost considerable ground over the years due to the changing market and the recession. This is making the name “Las Vegas” no longer a market asset. To better serve the global market, owners are going to meet about changing the name to better reflect how much the company operates at this time. Their locations are much more varied then just Las Vegas. It could be that they take on the same model of business as MGM Mirage did and include “international” in their new name, but either way the company is well on its way to solidifying itself in the global market place.
