Florida Celebrates First Legal Game of Blackjack at the Hard Rock Hotel
Saturday, September 26th, 2009Hollywood, Florida is the latest place to venture legally into the world of gambling. Carmen Electra was the host of the first legal game of Blackjack held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino this past Sunday. The hotel and casino hosted the game along with many other table games that are now legal in the city.
It was an all star event breaking in the casino for the night. Carmen Electra, along with a variety of other celebrities, kicked off the night at 6pm. The other games available that night were Baccarat, Blackjack, mini-Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Three-card Poker and Let it Ride. James Allen, CEO of Seminole Gaming, stated, “With the introduction of Blackjack and the other card games, Las Vegas-style casinos will now be at the doorstep of the residents of Florida. Floridians won’t have to go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to play their favorite casino games.”
Hollywood, Florida is set on building a gambling hub of its own in the US. Las Vegas and Atlantic City see billions of dollars from the hobby. Florida is looking to capitalize on the big bucks gambling brings into a community. The funds will be used to diminish the huge deficit the state has racked up due to the recession. It hopes to utilize the money to fund public works programs, city development and education. In addition, the city hopes the new casino will continue to create new jobs for its citizens. The casino just hired over 700 Blackjack dealers and supervisors to work the floor and the hope is that as it grows, more people will be needed. Job creation was an important impetus for the opening of the casino in the city.
The Seminole Tribal Council was also in attendance for the kick off. They were celebrating their distinction of being the first Native American Indian Tribe to own a major international corporation. James Allen added, “Our distinction as a business is another thing to definitely celebrate at this event. We’re very happy [because] this will take business to the next level.”
