The Wynn Pulls out of Bid for Slots in NY

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

The Wynn Resorts company is a luxury casino located in Paradise, Nevada. Named after casino mogul Steve Wynn, the $2.6 billion resort covers about 210 acres of the city.  If you visit the Wynn, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the huge amount of amenities available. There are 2,716 rooms that range from the small 640 square foot rooms to the 7,000 square foot villas. You’ll also find a 111,000 square foot casino, huge amounts of retail space and a convention center that rivals other centers from around the world.

Despite its opulence and grandeur, the Wynn recently decided not to complete a bid for slot machine lincensing in New York. The company surprised industry insiders by making the decision. They were formerly requesting rights to run the slot machines at New York’s famous Aqueduct Racetrack. It is pretty common for racetracks to be looking for slot parlor additions in an effort to increase revenues. The recession has caused many racetracks to close down, file bankruptcy or struggle financially. Slots parlors have been a clear savior for many racetracks in the US and having a successful company like The Wynn run them seemed to be a sure-fire way for the Aqueduct Racetrack to turn its finances around for the better.

The Wynn just released their financial papers and a healthy financial position showed. Despite their success in the market, the company decided to withdraw their bid for running the slots parlor in New York. If they did have the bid, the company would have been benefiting from 4,000 new slots in the New York facility. No one knows what the true reason for withdrawing their bid was, but one thing is for sure: the Wynn is staying out of the game of slot machines from now on. The company announced that after their withdrawal.

Although the Wynn is no longer a contender for running the slots at Aqueduct Racetrack, both Penn National and MGM Mirage are. The two companies are vying for the position and the Governor of the state is expected to announce a winner shortly. Only time will tell which company wins the bid and if the Wynn made a mistake by withdrawing their prematurely.

Airport Looks To Bring Slots to Waiting Passengers

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

Miami Dade Airport officials want to bring slot machines to the airport. They believe that this would be a great way to entertain people waiting for connecting flights and it also would be a way to bring in additional money to the business. Of course to make the move, they have to first get approval from the state.

Though it seems easy enough, there are some who are vehemently against slots being installed at the airports. Namely, it’s local racinos that are voicing their negative opinion of the move. They believe that racinos have suffered enough. The economy has wreaked havoc on the racetrack industry. Racetracks all over have suffered greatly due to patrons not having the funds to gamble. Tracks in particular have found it difficult to sustain themselves through the recession. Many have had to file bankruptcy and others have had to close down completely. One move many racetracks have made is to incorporate slots into their facilities. Slots have given many racetracks the ability to turn their own revenue-making downfall around. They have also created the new term “racino” as a blend of racetrack and slots casino.

Because of the care racetracks have had to go through to remain in business, they are fighting against the airport bringing slots to the market. They are worried that slots will cut too much into their much-needed revenues. One racetrack owner said, “If people can play slots at the airport, what is the incentive for them to leave at all? A lot of our patrons came from people visiting for a few hours…the shuttle brought them directly to us with slots specials and promotions.”

Local casinos agree that airports are not in need of funds as desperately at the casinos. Racetrack owner John Parsell said, “Without slots revenue, we have to close. Airports have been operating without slots revenue and will continue. They have a huge market to keep them going. We don’t.”  Despite opposition, the airport is moving ahead with its request for slot machines and hoping to capitalize on the revenues they bring. Though many believe that slots don’t necessarily have a logical place in an airport, the money they bring does.

    Illegal Slots Found in Oklahoma

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

Many critics of legalizing gambling are citing the growth in crime as a main reason why it shouldn’t happen.  Though there is no clear cut evidence to prove that claim, it is a concern for many legislators throughout the states. With the pending legalization and regulation of gambling, many are worried that crime will run rampant throughout the nation. Critics are citing the need for increasing police forces and gambling addiction services, or at minimum having a plan to increase them, as prerequisites for legalizing gambling. There are billions of dollars to be had in the gambling market and as one politician said, “Every moment the US does not legalize and regulate gambling, it is allowing millions of dollars to slip out of its hands.” The reality is that people are going to gamble. If it isn’t available in their states, people will either travel to neighboring states that allow gambling or begin gambling online via offshore companies. Either way, funds are being channeled outside the locations where people are gambling.

Recently Oklahoma City experienced a big crime with the finding of an illegal slot machine gambling operation. The whole operation came to the notice of police due to an anonymous tip they received. It was Bingo City, in northwestern Oklahoma City, where the illegal slot machines were being operated. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department and the Oklahoma City Police Department worked together to stop the operations. When the police entered the facility, they found 50 plus people playing on the slot machines illegally. The people were asked to leave immediately and employees were questioned. No arrests were made that day.

The only one who will see legal problems is the owner. Police found illegal phone card machines and those are what the owner was using as slot machines. He is now facing a felony complaint of commercial gambling for having illegal slot machines on his property. He also may have to face additional misdemeanor charges of possession of slot machines.  Unfortunately authorities will have to find the owner first because he was not present, nor has he been located since the discovery.  As police strengthen up their forces they expect to find more illegal complaints to investigate. Especially since the gambling industry is changing so rapidly.

Miami’s Calder Casino and Race Track Get OK For Slots

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

Calder Casino and racetrack just received the OK to go ahead with their slot machine installation. Everyone in the gaming industry knows that slot machines are highly lucrative in the market. Even Las Vegas casinos know that slots make up about 60% of their operating income. Now that the recession is deemed “over” but the aftermath is still heavy upon the market, the interesting thing is that slot machines are still proving their worth. In fact, some casino owners are noting how though top-dollar slots are suffering, the popularity of smaller denomination games are more than making up for it. If you walk into any casino you’ll see that the penny and nickel-slots are almost never empty despite the market downturn.

Calder Casino and racetrack was petitioning hard for slots and recently got them. The economy brought many changes to the revenue structures of racetracks. Most have numbers that are drastically down and have the same amounts of expenses. This is causing many problems in the market.  Most casinos are looking to bring in slots parlors to their facilities. In fact, the move is so popular that the new term “racino”, a combination of racetrack and slot casino, has been coined.  The racino just received their first shipment of slot machines. In fact, they came all the way from Illinois. The wait was worth it though.

In the shipment to Calder Casino were 242 brand new slot machines.  The facility is still under construction, but the machines complete a big part of the opening. The pending opening date is going to be some time in January of 2010.  When the facility does officially open it will have a total of 1,225 slot machines installed. The machines will be varied from the penny-slots to the dollar-slots so visitors will be able to pick, according to their bankrolls, what game they want to play.

Calder Casino is hoping that the inclusion of slot machines will bring it a new audience. The ractrack is not unlike most racetracks in the country that have suffered greatly due to the recession. Hopefully the slot machines will bring more people in and more revenue for the track to enjoy.

MA Council on Compulsive Gambling May Close

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

Now is not a good time for cutbacks to affect gambling programs. Although the UIGEA is set to become law tomorrow, that does not mean it will. The law is set to make online gambling illegal, but will it work? Industry insiders are saying that it won’t. They are predicting that there is enough of a legislative push to bring amendments to the UIGEA and alternatives to the picture that the question of illegal online gambling will be changed.

The state of Massachusetts is one state that is having a hard time fleshing out the online gambling issue. It is in the midst of some serious changes regarding the hobby. Online gambling is a billion-dollar business and the state is looking to expand its gambling in an effort to overcome its huge deficit problems. Unfortunately the state’s budget is causing greater cutbacks that could soon affect its new state of operations with the acceptance of gambling.

It was just announced that the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling may have to close down due to budget cuts by Governor Deval Patrick. The agency has been a very important organization for the state and it’s offered a wide variety of services to gambling addicts. However since the recession, funding for the agency has seen a 62% decline. This huge cut in funds makes it next to impossible for the organization to continue running. The change puts the state in a precarious position since legalization and regulation of gambling is such a hot topic.  One critic of the gambling issue stated, “They are going to provide all the gambling and slots people need, but when those same people become addicts, who is going to help them then?”

Although some believe that the funds from gambling and slots will fuel the economy in the state and allow it to earmark money for addiction services, there has been no formal move or committment by the government to do so. if slots are made legal and accessible in the state, some method of funding help for those in need will need to be found. Some analysts are suggesting the best option is for the state to legalize and regulate slots gambling and then portion part of the proceeds directly towards addiction services.

Check Out Rainbow Riches Win Big Shindig Slots Game

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

Slots players have it made! Look at a poker player. They normally find one, maybe two, games that they love and stick with them throughout the course of their gaming life. There are a few different variations of games they can choose from and that’s it. On the other hand, slots players have huge variety of games they can pick from and new games are constantly being introduced to the market.  Slot machine players have the luxury of searching for new games whenever they want. There are different themes, payouts and paylines, not to mention different numbers of reels, coinage and animation capabilities.

One company that is working hard to keep up with the continuously moving slots market is WagerWorks. The company is one of the best slot machine manufacturers around and they are focused on bringing a new game to the community regularly. Their latest game is Rainbow Riches Win Big Shindig. It’s a game that takes its form from the popular casino game of the same name. It did so well in the “real” casino world that developers now found a way to translate it into a virtual online game of the same quality and theme. The game is a 10-line game that has Irish music and a lucky leprechaun as the main symbols throughout. If you get three hat bonusese on reels 1, 3 and 5, you get the extra bonus that gives you a multiplier of 10 or 20 times the Pot of Luck bonus. You can pick one of three hats to see which bonus you get in this round. The animations in this game are rich and lush and anyone in search of a great looking game will be satisfied with this one.  The game even offers an auto-play mode where you can watch the on screen action without having to hit the button to play. This means that you can sit back and enjoy the game without worrying about playing it and watching everything that is going on at the same time.

Overall this is a great slots game to enjoy. It was popular with land-based players and it should be just as popular with online players. Test out the game and see for yourself what a great slots game this one is.

Slots Continue to Make Waves In Industry

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

If you love slots, the reason probably is because you know how varied they can be. One of the best advantages of the slots game is that it can easily be dressed up in any theme the manufacturer wants. If your hobby of choice is race cars, you’ll find a slot machine with that theme. If you love Elvis, you’ll find a machine that centers on the king. On the other hand, if you like TV or Egypt, you’ll find slot machines built around those themes too.

Slot machine manufacturers know exactly how to build machines that cater to a huge variety of clients. They are also continuously changing machines to make them more exciting for players. You’ll find games with different payouts and payline options. To top it off manufacturers do a lot of research on their games to make sure that they are performing and the ROI of each one is up to par. It if isn’t, they pull the machine. If it is, then they focus on that game and develop it further to make it even better. It’s a great way to be sure that your favorite games that have been around for a while have been time-tested by the company that made it.

For anyone at the 2009 G2E, or Global Gaming Expo, in Las Vegas, slots were the big news of the expo. Manufacturers introduced prototype slot machines for people to see. Manufacturers were also able to check out what their competitors were working on. Anyone in attendance will tell you that the number of new games to look at were amazing. This year the big releases were “American Idol” and “Sex in the City” slot machines.  Both are themed around the popular TV shows of the same name and they bring to life for fans of the game, what the shows are about. The “American Idol” game lets you choose to be one of the three judges- Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson or Kara DioGuardi. You even get to watch clips of former shows featuring popular ex-contestants.  In the “Sex in the City” game you are surrounded by pop icons Carrie Bradshaw, Mr. Big, Miranda, Samantha and Charolette.  You can play with your favorite characters and enjoy clips from the TV show and movie.

One thing is for sure– slot machine manufacturers know how to build machines that people love. If you are a fan of slots, consider yourself lucky. The future of gaming with slots is going to be even more exciting that it has been in past years. Watch out for the best machines to be coming in up coming months.

Contrary to Superstition, Slots are Random

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

There are still some people out there who believe that slot machines have brains. They believe that a machine is somehow “waiting” to payout to the right person and if they happen to “fool” the machine, that person can be them! We’ve all seen these people. They sit at a slot machine for hours waiting to make back their money. There is also another group that believes that if a machine pays out, then have to either move quickly to another machine or stay with the winning machine to extend their play. The underlying belief is that the machine “knows.” Both of these scenarios give the slot machine a decisive brain– the ability to reason and understand the payout process.

The reality is that a slot machine is run by a Random Number Generator, or RNG, that makes a completely random choice as to what symbols show up on the reels. That’s why you can sit at a slot machine for hours and have nothing, while another time you sit at the same machine and it pays you right away. It isn’t the slot machine making the decision, but rather the RNG deeply imbeded in the machine that is calling the shots.

The only deciding factor the game may have is its payout percentage. That’s how much the machine pays back versus how much is put in. That number though is preset within the machine however. It isn’t a moving number, but rather a one-time programmed number that never changes. Sure you want to play on games that have higher percentage payouts– that only makes sense– but remember that the money it is paying out is over a long period of time, say a year.  You can’t sit at a machine and expect it to pay you because it hasn’t a certain number of times.

There are also some people who think that if a slot machine pays out, then it’s going to NOT payout to recoup the money it lost. Again, this won’t happen because the machine is working on a RNG and that mechanism keeps resetting every time you hit the “spin” button.  There is no such thing as the machine “knowing” it hit out or wanting to strategically recoup its loss. The great thing about slots is that they are random. There is no rhyme or reason to their payouts, but they just payout when the numbers are right/ when the stars align/ when you get lucky. Put away the theories and just have fun!

    Tribal Slots Casinos Suffering

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

If you are wondering about the economy, just as the tribal casinos that have lost millions on lagging sales. If you compare numbers from this year to last years, there is a notable difference in revenues. Most Indian-owned casinos were doing relatively well before the market bottomed out. The result is number are declining steadily, rather than picking up sharply now that the recession has been declared “over” by many industry insiders. Despite the end of the recession, tribal casinos are seeing lower and lower numbers of people com in to play their slot machines. There have been reports of the slot machine manufacturers themselves feeling the pinch because casinos are not ordering more machines. Though the technologies available are changing, casinos can’t start ordering top-notch games because they don’t have the players to support them.

The tribes in California say that there are still people coming to play the slot machines, but that they are not seeing the numbers that they used to. There is a reported overall 6% drop in revenues from last year.  Many casinos are arguing that people are still playing at slot machines, but they are not playing the high-end slots. The penny-slots are always full, but the machines with wager requirements of over $5 are rarely busy.  That is the overall change in the market– people are still gambling, but at a much lower wager than previously. Now players are making themselves content with longer play time, but less wagering and less potential payouts.

There are still people coming to gamble at the slot machines, they just don’t have the money that they used to, so they are turning to lower denomination machines to have their fun. Las Vegas had reported something similar in that they saw that they still had people playing, but they were bringing in more penny slot machines because that is what people were choosing to play. The overall feeling is that playing small lets you play for a long time, without losing a lot of money. It’s a tactic many gamblers are taking to quite easily these days. Tribe-owned casinos are voicing their concerns saying that they were bracing for the economic downturn, but didn’t expect the afteraffects to last as long as they are.

Who Really Is LetOhioVote.Org?- Part 2

    Monday, November 30th, 2009

The LetOhioVote.org organization has found much of its power in the realm of the conservative and faith-based markets. Citizens for Community Values, Family First PAC, National Government Prayer Alliance and the National Christian Schools Association are just some of the nation-wide groups that are supporting LetOhioVote.org and share a religious or value-driven message.

One of the issues the state has had with LetOhioVote.org is knowing exactly who is funding the organization. Strickland’s supporters want to know who is supporting the group and what their vested interest is in the entire project of statewide gambling. The question has also crossed the minds of lawyers for the state of Ohio and they are also asking the high court to allow them to look into the organization’s agenda.

Fellow justices predominantly denied the request. Justice Paul Pfeifer however, chastised fellow justices for denying the state the chance to identify the organization’s benefactors. Some are even claiming that Penn National is a large backer of the organization, though Penn has denied the allegation. Pfeifer said, “If this state is to become a gambling center, we should look with caution at Nevada’s long history of lack of transparency in the identity of the true parties behind the development of the gambling industry. We should determine that from the outset, the truth will be told in Ohio.”

Only time will tell what is going to happen but it seems that LetOhioVote.org will eventually get the number of signatures needed for the issue to enter the May ballot. Once that happens, it still has yet to be seen how people vote. There could be a large number of residents who want the right to vote on slots, but still want them allowed in the state. Even LetOhioVote.org issued an early statement that read, “The organization is not sided on whether or not slots should be allowed to fund government budgets, rather we believe that the people have the right to decide that.” If the referendum is included on the ballot, people of Ohio will have the right to decide whether or not slots and gambling revenues should be allowed to fund the budget.  If it isn’t, then the state is left at a standstill to figure out how to close the huge deficit gap.
