OR Looks to Expand Slots Gambling
Tuesday, June 7th, 2011Portland Oregon officials are looking to expand their gambling initiatives to maximize dollars right now. This is nothing new of course. Most states in the US have some type of gambling plan and are looking to focus on slots gaming. Slots have proven their power in the world of gambling time and time again. People love to wager on them and that means that operators are pushing them to the general market. You can find any number of new games now in the marketplace and that is likely to continue. Developers are putting millions of dollars into them because they are so popular and such huge money-makers. In Portland, officials are joining in on the same theory of pushing the games to make sure that they get as much revenue as possible. The House recently voted to pass the bill that would allow slots to enter Biddeford and to be stationed at racetracks in Washington County too. There were some debates though on the issue. Some state officials wanted the decision to be put into the hands of the voting public. This is something that many states have relied on, but Oregon opted for a different route. The city officials in Portland decided to vote on the issue separately. The bill though still has to go past the House and the Senate for final approval.
Members of the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee also wanted to allow the voters to make the decision. They were hoping that they could come up with their own gambling initiatives. They believe that the economic situation of the world is enough of a reason to move forward with the slots being stationed at racetracks. Racetracks of course have long been suffering due to the recession. It is something that is coming against the market and it could potentially push out the racing market altogether. At the risk of this happening, legislators in Oregon are trying to reinvigorate the market right away. Representatives who are in favor of the move want to immediately move in on the change and come up with the different revenue stream. This would save the racing market but also help the state to come up with a better income stream due to tax revenue dollars.
