Regulators Concerned About US Slots Legalization Process »

Be Safe When Picking New Online Slots Parlor

The markets of online slots and online gambling are huge ones. There are millions of US players wanting to gamble online and with legislators debating legalization, more are expected to enter the market quickly.  As legalization and regulation come closer to realities, many governments are concerned with underage gambling. The internet is anonymous. It’s relatively easy for users with some basic knowledge to get past simplistic security.  For this reason governments are trying to strengthen laws, but until they do, consumers are largely on their own.

One country that is facing the problem of underage slots play and gambling is Nova Scotia. The Canadian Atlantic province is focused on the issue and determined to create a solution that protects the public from harm. The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation commissioned a study in 2006 that examined the frequency of minors at online slots parlors and Internet gambling sites.  The site revealed that minors were gambling at online casinos three times as much as legal adults.  According to the study 15% of 18 year olds were gambling online and 19% of minors between the age of 15 and 17 were gambling online. These numbers were startling to the public, but industry experts were not as surprised. They believe that the issue is a difficult one to manage and many underage teens have fallen into the dangers of online slots play or online gambling without ever being found out.

In response to the Nova Scotia study, their Gaming Corporation is looking for tangible solutions by commissioning an American company to finally develop software that would effectively block minors from accessing online casinos and other gambling sites.  According to Marie Mullally the President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, the commission was successful.

BetStopper is the software being used to monitor online slots parlors and online casinos. It is a free service and the first of its kind to be used in the market. A test of 250 families in Nova Scotia brought positive results and the software performed excellently.  Mullally stated, “There was nothing out there, so we invented this. It has a heightened or enhanced level of intelligence that allows it to have a 98 percent rate of blocking sites.”
